Summer Kids’ Kapers 2011
Registration Dates:
Tuesday, May 3rd and Wednesday, May 4th at 8:30 a.m.
You may register one family of children at a time, your own or someone else’s. Please do not ask to register by phone during these two days. You may register in the church office anytime after registration on Wednesday.
Class Dates: May 24-June 10, Tuesdays through Fridays.
Our program offers three weeks of classes: Red Week (May 24-27), White Week (May 31-June 3) and Blue Week (June 7-10). Each week of classes is divided into two sessions, with slightly different class offerings. Session one begins at 9:30 a.m., and session two at 10:45 a.m. There is a 15 minute snack and play break in-between sessions.
Class Fees:
$60 per week/$160 for all three weeks (special discount!)
You may sign up for any or all three weeks of classes. There are two sessions of classes each week. If you choose to only do one of these two sessions, classes are $30 for the week. Please make checks out to Shadow Rock Church.
Lunch Bunch:
$22 per week/$60 for all three weeks (special discount!)
All children may also choose to utilize “Lunch Bunch” from 11:45 a.m.-1:00 p.m. “Lunch Bunch” provides supervised lunch time (child brings lunch) and activity centers.
Age Requirements:
Ages 3 1/2 through 6 years old (entering 1st grade)
To qualify for a one hour class, children must have turned three before 1/1/11. Younger children (2-not quite 3 1/2 years old) may participate in the Minis’ Summer Fun class designed specifically for their age group. The Mini’s Program is one long session from 9:30 to 11:45, rather than two individual ones.

Class Descriptions
Arthur, Arthur! (Marci Larsen) Celebrate everyone’s favorite aardvark—Arthur, from the beloved Marc Brown books! Come and listen to the stories, and learn what Arthur can teach us about friendship and fun!
Clay Play (Karen Peterson) Using various types of clay as the medium, children will create candle holders, pinch pots, dishes and free form sculptures. Be prepared to get your hands dirty!
Desert Animals (Chase Covey and John Banks) This class is all about our outdoor friends right here in Arizona. Coyotes and scorpions and snakes—oh my!
Endangered Species (Colleen Stangl) What animals are around today and which ones might not be here tomorrow? Learn about some of our endangered species and how their habitats and people interact.
Fantastic Fairy Tales (Shauna Neaville) Join us as we explore timeless fairy tales and nursery rhymes. All knights and damsels are welcome here!
Go Techno! (Chase Covey and John Banks) We’ll be looking at the history of technology from a preschool point of view. We’ll dig out those oldies-but-goodies, like typewriters and record players, and expose the kids to all sorts of machines that have made our lives easier over the years.
Hola, Amigos! (Alexandria Boice) Have fun exploring the language and culture of Spanish-speaking people throughout the world. We’ll be doing a little bit of everything: numbers, colors, animals and more!
Just Desserts (Shauna Neaville) Join us in the kitchen as we cook up some delectable desserts and yummy treats. Bring your sweet tooth!
Let’s Act Out (Colleen Stangl) All the world’s a stage, and we’ll be on it! We’ll play acting games like charades, make some cool masks, and act out our favorite nursery rhymes.
Making Music (Colleen Stangl) Music, rhythm and repetitive lyrics are a stepping block for reading readiness so come shake your booty to the beat. We’ll be making all sorts of rhythm instruments to create our own rhythm and “play” with recorded music..
Masterpiece Art (Karen Peterson-White Week and Colleen Stangl -Blue Week) Children will view reproductions of art and then create a “pre-school masterpiece” using the techniques of great artists. We will experiment with basic elements of line, shape, color, space, form and texture.
Must Love Dogs (Marci Larsen) A class devoted to man’s best friends. We’ll be getting in touch with our canine companions through stories, songs, art and more!
Ocean Fun (Gretchen Dumas) Come explore beach life and the deep blue sea. Whales, dolphins and fishes you will see. Just add water!
Sign Language (Alexandria Boice) Children will learn simple signs they can use everyday such as colors, animals, family and manners. Games, songs and stories will be used as methods of learning.
Traveling and Tasting (Gretchen Dumas) Join the adventure of making and tasting foods from around the world. Each day we’ll create a tasty delight as we travel around the globe.
Yoga Time (Alexandria Boice) Yoga is a great way to relax and relieve stress, and in this kid-friendly class, we’ll be doing just that! Kids will learn cool poses and have fun stretching and bending.
Mini’s Summer Fun (Rachel Anderson and Caitlin Johnson) This class is formatted for the developmental stage twos and young three year olds are living out. Class time is from 9:30-11:45 and will include activities, exploration and free play time. Our summer fun will include all sorts of adventures in the worlds of animals, stories, science, food, and more! Weekly sessions will vary.
