*To provide for those families needing 5-day morning coverage for their 2 year-old children, they can register for both the T-Th and M-W-F Blue Room (only one registration fee will be assessed). Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis. The curriculum will repeat on alternate days. Monthly tuition will be based as a 5-day class.
Any exceptions to our age groupings need to made prior to registration by the Directors in consultation with the teachers and parents. Children can only be placed with a younger group. We reserve the right to drop a class, modify the number of children in a class, or move your child to another class if necessary.
Terrific Twos
You bet we take two-year-olds at Shadow Rock! We LOVE the twos!
Culturally common phrases such as The Terrible Twos are old hat. What is it about these
little people that elicits such a reaction?
A wise Parent Study teacher once told me that twos absolutely MUST push limits—it’s how
they begin to learn that they are independent creatures with a will of their own. Sometimes
it seems like there could be an easier way, but all of this saying NO and pushing is
necessary so that these little ones are not still living at home when they are thirty.
Do they have to be potty trained? No, not until our classes for threes.
What can two-year-olds DO in preschool?
On a typical morning you’ll find them digging a hole in the sand box and running our grassy
hill. You’ll see them making bubbles and playing with a parachute. You’ll find them painting
at the easel with big strokes and putting tiny little wooden puzzles together. You’ll see them
building with blocks beside one another. You’ll hear their delight as they twirl and dance
and pretend. You’ll be amazed that they can sit and listen to a short story book.
You’ll see them cooking and finding their own jacket and cubbie, walking backwards to their
room and holding a friend’s hand, singing the “Good Morning” song and tapping rhythm
sticks. They will pour their own juice and drink it from a paper cup, pour water through a
funnel, and swish their hands in a tub of beans. They even can use their words asking for
help and are beginning to occasionally “take turns” (commonly known as sharing).
One way to appreciate twos is to really concentrate on all that they are learning. Yes, it’s
important for them to begin to put on their own jacket. Yes, it’s OK that they spit out a new
food, at least they tried it! They are training their brain to control and coordinate their eyes
with their arms. They are seeking new textures and trying different tastes.
And they are learning language! The average two-year-old enters this age with around 100
expressive words and turns three saying more than 1,000. If you learned this rapidly you’d
have your PhD in a year! They are learning how to say words and how to use them to get
what they want. They are learning how to train you so that you help them get what they
want. And they are learning which words and phrases get you to pay attention to them!
Bring us those awe-inspiring, terrific, working-on-independence two-year-olds! We’re
ready!

Children are our FIRST concern, but in order to do things for children we need monetary support. Since we depend on tuition for the operation of the school, we want to make our tuition policies clear.
Our school year runs mid-August through mid-May. For your convenience, yearly tuition is divided into NINE (9) equal payments. Each payment is the same regardless of holidays, short vacations, or absenteeism.
Your first tuition payment is due August 1. It is delinquent after August 10. Then beginning September 1, tuition is due on the first of each month, through April 1. There is NO tuition payment due in May for those who made an August payment. Unfortunately, we do not accept debit or credit cards, so payments can be paid with cash or checks please.

there is a flat rate tuition for both of $800 per month. (This is an annual savings of $500.)
This option must be selected by August 15th.
There is a 5% reduction in tuition if the total annual tuition is paid in full by September 1.

2010-2011 School Year Registration
YES!!
We have openings at all levels!!
There are openings available in the 2's turning 3, 3's turning 4 and a few in Pre-K. Please stop by to tour the school or give us a call if you'd like more information.
If your favorite class is not available, we encourage you to do two things; (1) enroll in your second choice, if possible, and; (2) put your child's name on a waiting list for your first choice.
Many changes occur between now and the beginning of school which might enable your child moving into that "special" class.

We are available to show you our campus at any time during the school day (9 am to 3:30 pm). Please call either Marilyn or Sharon at the school (602-993-0050) to schedule a visit.

Please be advised that we will need an updated copy of your child's immunizations the VERY FIRST DAY of school. Otherwise, your child will be sent home. This is a Maricopa County Department of Public Health rule. The Hepatitis A (2 shots -- the second dose given 6-12 months after the first) and Varicella (chicken pox) vaccines are required for all children attending preschool in Maricopa County. Your child must also have 4 DTaP, 3 Polio, 1 MMR, 3 Hep B and 3-4 Hib (with 1 dose on/after 1st birthday or 1 Hib dose given at/after 15 months) .
Note: Should there be a religious or medical reason your child is not vaccinated for any or all of the above, a waiver release may be signed by the parent(s).

At the beginning of each school year, students are apprehensive as to who their teachers might be and how are they going to make new friends. Over the years, we have found that our slow integration process has been extremely successful and provides an easy transition for your child into the Preschool/KDO environment. It includes:
